Spirit is a top down rpg game I made for a 2D level design class. We were provided with a template for basic player, enemy, and dialogue systems.
You play as Yusuke, a small but powerful dog faced with saving the world against a mystical threat. Cast spells, bite yokai, and collect amulets to stop the blood moon.
I drew inspiration from the Legend of Zelda(Link to the Past), the Nioh series, Ghostwire Tokyo, and more. I wanted the world to feel fascinating but slightly unsettling (much like the Miyazaki movie Spirited Away).
Although the gameplay is straightforward I made sure to be keen on visual and auditory feedback for every action. Combat is simple but responsive and I was more experimental than usual with scripting events to try and test new methods for building a level. I have learned a lot while making it and will continue to do so as I finish the project within the next week.
